Volvo Car Malaysia will introduce a range of updates and changes to its new fleet of Volvo XC90, XC60, S90, S60 and V60 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) for 2024. The updates will be applicable to models introduced from September, including the addition of a stylish new colour, Vapour Grey.
Driven by Volvo’s electrification ambition, all Volvo 2024 plug-in hybrid electrics will come with a more powerful on-board charger (OBC) that accommodates up to 6.4 kilowatts (kW) with two- or three-phase charging for shorter charging times, defaulting to 3.6 kW for single-phase charging.* This upgrade allows owners to have more control over their fully electric journeys by spending less time on charging.
“Since the launch of the Volvo XC90 Recharge in 2016, the first-ever locally assembled plug-in hybrid in Malaysia, every vehicle we introduce brings us closer to our goal of becoming the leading maker of premium electric vehicles in the region,” said Charles Frump, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia. “The 2024 upgrades, especially the improved charging speed for our newest range of plug-in hybrids, provide drivers with more ownership over fully electric journeys and the confidence to take the first step towards a fully-electric future with Volvo.”
The exterior improvements on Volvo 2024 models will see a panoramic sunroof as a standard feature for all models. Meanwhile, the Volvo S90 Recharge will be equipped with a new eight-spoke wheel design, while the V60 Recharge and S60 Recharge will receive a new six-spoke version.
Key updates for the 2024 models include:
>On-board Charger (OBC) 6.4 kW 2-phase update for all new PHEV models.*
>5-year complimentary Digital Services including access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store and Volvo Cars app remote functions for all new models.
>Vapour Grey, a new exterior colour option for all models adding on to the existing Onyx Black, Crystal White, Denim Blue, and Platinum Grey colourways.
>Standard panoramic sunroof with power operation for all models.
>New wheel rim designs for the Volvo S90 Recharge, Volvo V60 Recharge and Volvo S60 Recharge.
>New YouTube app inclusion for Google built-in.**
The Volvo XC90 Recharge remains the only seven-seater PHEV SUV available in Malaysia, with active air suspension and a pure-electric range of up to 77km to make tailpipe emission-free daily commutes without the need for petrol power.
The Volvo XC60, an elegant yet dynamic-driving SUV, also shares plenty of luxury features of the Volvo XC90 such as the Bowers & Wilkins high-fidelity audio system with individual Room sound profiles, air purifier, head-up display, handsfree tailgate, emergency stop and pilot assist, and a 360° Surround View Camera.
All 2024 car models come with Volvo’s extensive suite of safety features, such as Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Lane Keeping Aid, and Collision Avoidance & Mitigation with Steering Support and Braking.
All new 2024 models will also have the YouTube app available on the Google built-in infotainment systems. The app can only be used when the car is stationary, such as while charging or taking a break from the road, and users can sign in to access video subscriptions and recommendations. Eligible previous Volvo models running on the Google built-in infotainment system will also receive YouTube via an over-the-air (OTA) software update, which now also allows scheduled charging via the Volvo Cars app.**
The updated Volvo models will be available from September 2023. Interested customers can book test drives for the 2024 Volvo XC90, XC60, S90, S60 and V60 through Volvo Car Malaysia’s website here.

* The On-board Charger (OBC) is a 6.4 kW 2-phase or 3-phase charger that converts AC voltage from the Electrical Vehicle Inlet (EVI) to high voltage DC for charging the vehicle’s high-voltage battery. By accommodating higher charging power in 2- or 3-phase charging, charging times are improved compared to single-phase charging:
Charging power and charging time may vary depending on voltage level and whether another load is connected to the same circuit.
Maximum 6.4 kW with two-phase or three-phase charging, or 3.6 kW with single-phase charging. Maximum charging current may vary.
If the weather is very hot or cold, some of the charging current is used to heat/cool the hybrid battery, resulting in a longer charging time. If the parking heater is active, part of the charging current is also used.
** Version 2.11 customer software to be rolled out from September 2023. Software is primarily updated over-the-air (OTA). Updating at an authorised Volvo dealer may be charged unless it is included in a repair or service agreement. Updating software to the latest version also includes previous updates. Users will be notified through the centre display when new software is available over-the-air. Go to "Settings", "System" and "Software update" to see the current software version. Functionality after updating may vary depending on market, model, model year and options.
